Do you think porn is inherently harmful and why/why not?

It depends on how much and what circumstance, if you are in a relationship and look at it a lot, then I'd say its harmful, as that means there is something you are _not_ getting in the relationship you need/want sexually.
But thats only the first example off the top of my head, frankly the way to tell if its detrimental to you is try to go a week with out it at all, then a month, if you fail either of these then you may want to think about it more.

I don't think it's inherently harmful, but as a Christian I can't really see any justification of the creation of it.

No, I don't think it's inherently harmful. It BECOMES harmful if it becomes an addiction or if it is negatively affecting your relationship with a significant other.
My sex drive is a little higher than my SO's, which leads me to enjoy porn on average at one or two times a week, sometimes more, sometimes less. We also watch it together every now and then. Neither of us have an issue with it at all.

Not "inherently" harmful depending on the porn, but one concern I have is that it can lead to unrealistic expectations about sex, relationships, etc.

@1605 See I've heard that before, but I looked at porn a lot as a teen and my unrealistic expectation was that chicks didn't like sex... which came from media more than religion in my opinion. ymmv

@1605 I don't really agree that it leads to unrealistic expectations. What adult watches porn and actually thinks it's real or has anything to do with regular life or actual relationships?

I usually stick to amateur porn, so I get pretty much no unrealistic expectations.

@1619... yeah, amateur porn is the best. It's not all that sexy to watch porn that is obviously staged and very fake.

So I guess messages is full of amateur porn fans... lol

You can talk about it, but trying to post pictures is not acceptable.
Children != sexy

The official m.essag.es position is that discussion of any topic is acceptable, however, discussion specifically refers to text in a human-readable language. We are not (and do not intend to be) a "safe harbor" for any type of image, video, or other binary file or the textual non-human-readable encoding of any such content.
Anything you can post that is text in a human-readable language is acceptable, INCLUDING describing acts, pictures and videos, regardless of the legality of the pictures/videos/acts being discussed. You CAN discuss where to find illegal non-textual material.
That said, if you're a pedo looking for CP go to anontalk or one of the *chan sites or one of those other dumbass pedo hangouts.
BTW I support the idea of safe harbor but I simply don't have the resources to provide a safe harbor for files. I'm not going to put my freedom in jeopardy just so somebody can jerk off to little kids, or exchange copyrighted music and movies, etc.

I would think it sets unrealistic expectations, can cause early developmental relationship issue during teenage years, as the interaction with the opposite sex maybe poorly understood.

@2096 Personal experience or just what you've heard?
December 13 2010, 13:31:19 #2099 [0 Agree] [0 S] [0 T]
No lengthy personal experience with it, it's just never been my cup of tea I guess, but I've talked to plenty of married guys about it.

I don't think that it negatively affects adults who view it, as long as they are not addicted (addictive behaviors of any kind are unhealthy).
I wouldn't want a young kid watching it.

@2096 @2099
I've looked at internet porn since I was 10 and I respect women, have healthy relationships, and didn't have any unrealistic expectations about sex.
Never been addicted.
