What about it, per se? I think much of it is out of touch with reality, but it's not like I could back that up with facts.

I hear a lot about college not being "the world", or a college degree being useless. It depends on the person, and the school, but I call bullshit on people that haven't been to school and still critize it.
College is an amazing opportunity to study all sorts of shit, meet a shitton of people (friends, geniuses, potential coworkers, professors, your future spouse) and find yourself spiritually.
I'm also interested in how many college dropouts found successful companies (Steve Jobs, Serge Brin, etc - though Serge Brin dropped out of a PhD program, not undergrad). I'm convinced this is because of all the amazing experiences and learning they had in a few years, they didn't need to stay the full 3-5 years and get a degree. It also definitely doesn't mean the money they spent on it was worthless.

College does not necessarily mean success and success does not necessarily mean college. There is a correlation, though.

@154
It would be worth it to you if you learned some goddamn grammar.

@159
It would be worth it if you realized that grammar isn't all there is to communication, and communication isn't all there is to a person.

@165--thanks!
@154 so you think a college education is worth something if you can curse, but still be grammatically correct? ...wow, that was inspiring!
see, people like you cannot support their statements. you said there is a correlation between education and success. so, by UR standards, how do you know if it is worth it???
just answer the question please.

I don't have a degree and I'm just as good at what I do as my coworker who has a degree and a longer work experience. YMMV. No school loans for me to pay off.

@182 No, just observation. I have more varied experience than he does, and thus a slightly wider set of skills.

@180
ok, just wanted to know...I actually understand what you are saying about the cost of BA & value of work experience.
what type of work are we talking about?
would you be considered for promotion if given the chance?
Does edu pay?
where will you be in 5 yrs?
**I like hot topics!** #31 around? you seem to be more than confident! what's your view?
@180--BTW i respect a good worker.

@187 I'm in the IT world, and it has been my experience that 2 to 4 years of work experience will put you on equal footing as the degree guy. I do however think that in large companies the college grads up top will tend to create a culture that promotes a degree first.
